There will be two shows on the 7th � one at 4:30 and one at 7:30 p.m. Then there will be three shows the next day, the 8th � at 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Then right after the last show they pack it all up an head for the next city.� The circus will spend several days in Metairie and Slidell after coming to Hammond. The circus works 24 hours a day, svent days a week, for the length of its season, which begins in March , he said. �In March we leave our headquarters in Deland, Fla., and start up the 95 Corridor. We go up the East Coast all the way to Long Island, then back down again,� Dundee said. The circus season ends in November when the crew either returns to �winter quarters� or readies the equipment for next season, he said. This year marks the 125th anniversary of Cole Bros. Circus. Cole Bros Circus is the brainchild of W. W. Cole, who inaugurated the Cole Bros. Circus title in 1884, having begun his circus career in 1871. Cole Bros. Circus, unlike many other circuses, uses a traditional big, portable tent instead of an auditorium or other building. The tent is the size of a football field, Dundee said. In the early days of the circus elephants were used to assemble it. The performers fix their own rigging, he said, and early in the mornings everything and everyone is busy, including the performers� children. �We have kids here who were born into circus families who have done it all their lives,� Dundee said. �All the performers are really talented and can perform two to three acts.� The youngest member of the circus is 11 years old, a performer who stands atop a pyramid of people assembled on a high wire. A unique feature is the Human Cannonball, which is fired at every show, Dundee said. Other attractions are a seven-man pyramid on the high wire, the Globe of Death and Giant Gyro Wheel, gymnasts, clowns and a variety of performing animals. Dundee�s job at each stop is to make sure all the necessary city permits are in hand for the show, he said. Originally from Scotland, he was living in Australia when he first joined a circus at age 15. He was later involved in professional wrestling under the name Bill Superstar Dundee, and he came to America to wrestle. The event takes place on Saturday, May 2nd from 10 am to 4 pm with a live band (Doxx), food, drink, a variety of vendors and several raffles to be held toward the end of the afternoon for some fantastic prizes! One of the largest prizes is a party package for up to 30 people, a $650 value, donated by Adventure Quest Laser Tag in Harahan. Ticket holders need not be present to win. All proceeds from the sale of food and drinks will go directly to the Tangi Humane Society. Ferrara's will be offering the children tours on one of their fire engines, in addition to some other children's activities. Two educational seminars will be held on dog safety and caring for your dog, with Dr.Jason Farrell from Hickory Small Animal Hosptial will be on hand to answer basic vet -care questions. She refused to eat off the dish and had to be bottle fed for a while; hence, the name Baby. Now, though, she eats like a big girl and doesn�t miss a meal. Baby is adventurous and loves to explore. She loves hugs and kisses only when she gets tired and is ready for a nap. Baby loves her face to be gently rubbed, and she likes to be brushed, especially on her face.

Meet Duke

Description: This handsome fellow is Duke. He�s about 3 to 4 years old and a Rottweiller mix. Duke was one of our first dogs to come to the shelter so he�s been here about one year. It�s time for this great guy to find his forever home. Here�s his story: A concerned citizen phoned us to report three dogs that were chained with no food, water or shelter. After an attempt to assist the owners in caring for the dogs failed, they all came to live at the shelter. His two buddies have since been adopted. Duke is still waiting. He�s a mellow, laid back soul who loves to be petted and get attention from people. He alerts by barking when someone arrives and has been around children as well as other dogs. He has tested positive for heartworm but is on medication now and the Vet feels we caught it early so he should be okay. He is neutered, current on his shots and walks well on a leash. He hasn�t paid much attention to the cats but has not been off leash around them so we really don�t know how he�d react. His biggest challenge is not getting aggressive when other dogs are around when there is food present. Probably due to his first few years of having little to eat he will need to be carefully monitored in this area. A one dog home would be best to control this issue. Duke just needs a loving owner who has a fenced yard where he can live outside and chill in the sun or shade depending on the weather. Is that you or do you know of someone?
